Should I start building my team or wait until new cards come out?

You can start building team now....if they are not out by the time League fills we are going forward without them. There is no guarenteed that they are coming out soon; we could be waiting weeks.

I have it from a reliable source inside SOM that the new ATG8 cards will be added to the player set either today or tomorrow, most likely by the end of the business day today. There seems to be a little something for everyone in the new cards being issued.

While I understand that we are all eager to use the new cards, and while it is especially difficult to time the start of a new league that includes the new cards with SOM's poor record of meeting its deadlines for issuance of the new cards, if in fact the new cards are issued in the next day or so, it seems to me that those managers who have the benefit of seeing the new cards before selecting their second round franchise have an advantage over the managers who selected their second round franchise without the benefit of seeing the new cards and acted in good faith by selecting their second round franchise without delay so as not to hold up the start of the league. I'm not sure if there is a solution for this, but if the new cards are issued in the next day or so, in the interest of fairness, perhaps it merits discussion to make the second round franchise selections over again, as none of us saw the new cards when we made our first round franchise selection, but not all managers will have seen the new cards prior to making the second round franchise selection.

Anyway, with the above being said, this is supposed to be a fairly large card addition, a total of about 80 cards, since it allegedly will include the 2003 Marlins and the 1999 Diamondbacks. More than 70 of the new cards being added are from the Post WWII/Expansion set. The list of new cards as set forth below was cut and pasted from the ATG8 new cards topic in the forum:

1999 Diamondbacks core team:

4 SS Andy Fox* (sub much more useful 1998 cheap card)
5 3B X - Matt Williams (already in - substitute)
6 LF Luis Gonzalez*
7 CF Steve Finley* (sub with better 2000 card - received 27 votes in 19.2 - missed by 1)

9 C Kelly Stinnett
10 RF Bernard Gilkey
11 1B Erubiel Durazo* (use 2001 card instead)

2001 Craig Counsell IF - nice utility player from '01 WS team (2b 2 e4, ss 3 e18, 3b 3 e12, 1b 3 e25)

1 SP Carl Pavano
2 SP Brad Penny
3 SP Mark Redman
4 SP Dontrelle Willis
5 SP Josh Beckett

6 CL Braden Looper
7 RP Michael Tejera
8 RP Armando Almanza (sub 5L 2000 better cheap card - 2003 card is pretty bad)
9 RP Ugueth Urbina

Extras:
1993 Bryan Harvey RP - Marlins first all-star, CY-8 MVP-14, seems like a good candidate for one of the relief spots. 7L righty, 1.70era 0.84whip
1995 Chuck Carr CF 1 +1 e6 A *2-6,11/ (17-15) 1-17 6L (Pairs with current 2004 Juan Pierre card)
1996 Alex Arias (good utility IF, original Marlin, need another cheap card)
1997 Edgar Renteria SS 1 e19 (Marlins already have better offensive SS in Hanley Ramirez - I think the "1" version of Renteria is a better fit than the 1996 version also mentioned). Also adds a 1997 WS team card.
1997 Jay Powell RP - 4R righty card appears to be a good choice for another relief spot. R2, 3.28era 1.26whip (adds another 1997 WS team card)

2017 Giancarlo Stanton RF MVP (more requests for the 2017 card than the 2014 version)

I hope the above list of pending new card additions helps keep everyone in the loop. - Bernie

I didn't want to do the exact same combo back to back, but the Mariners are such a good fit with the Cubs that I couldn't turn it down. Will be interesting to see how the new cards change some of the expansion franchises, depends on what those added cards really look like.

I think Bernie’s idea about a do-over of the second round selection once the new cards are added is an equitable solution.

Treyomo,

That team took you to game 6 of the WS. I'll try and knock you out by game 5 this time :D

Musial6 - you left w/o picking !

No REDS or ROYALS on this list but I don't care. I'm not repicking.

....there is always season 28.
