"Thanks, Geoff. I really thought that with the second half surge the Expos had that you had the team to beat and being down 2-0 and 3-1 seemed insurmountable. So, congratulations to you as well on the fine season and series. The Wobegon '79 Indians always seemed to have just enough to get by, though everyone seemed below average. All except the SP, and I had to ride them for all they could give me and just happened to get gems from Perry, Denny, and Goltz in the end. Real Cleveland fans would have loved this in '79 and and there would have been 76,000 fans in Municipal Stadium for those last two games. And it would have been cold in both places. I'm imagining a stiff cold wind off of Lake Erie blowing through the open end of the place in the 7th game, stinging hands and knocking down fly balls. "

You're right - it would have been an incredible series from a fan perspective! And it would have been cold weather probably too.

The Expos got great pitching down the stretch from 3 pitchers - Rogers, Knepper and Marshall. In the playoffs they also got some gems from Hough.

The Expos hitting was inconsistent throughout the year, especially versus right handed pitching. The Expos 1979 lineup actually *underperformed* versus left handed pitching according to my analysis, and actually overperformed vs RHP. The Expos would have some games where they scored a bunch vs RHP, but then would regress to their cards as the bats went cold from time to time.

Sadly for this Expos team, after scoring a ton in games 1,2 and 4, the bats went silent. The Expos had only 17 hits and *zero* homeruns in the last 3 games of the series.

The Indians did what they did all year - they got quality starts from their starters, with lots of innings. The Indians were second in team pitching, and the Expos (despite improving dramatically during the year) were 10th.

It was a classic baseball result! Well done Mark!

I had also posted to Jeff that I'd have felt it inadequate to unseat the Royals dynasty without following it through to the end, however rough and rocky the effort.

While we are giving everyone their due: Firstly, the Red Sox and Tigers for their great seasons and tough grind through the semifinals, including the 12-11 thriller between the Indians and the Bosox in Game 5. Great Season, guys. Also to the Central Division. That was a pretty good fight all season until teams went every which way over the final 4 series of the regular season. And the Royals made a valiant late run to try to extend their dominance. The back to back 3-run homer walk-off's v the Royals were just typical of the lucky rabbits the Indians seemed to pull out of their hat.

As I've assessed the Indians needs for '80, (translated EVERYTHING),and the '80 free agent pool, my celebration is now as short lived as the PFL offseason.

It seems there is a problem with logging in from a smartphone, at least for a couple of us. Obviously, I was able to get in from my desktop. I'll take proxies via email or text if anyone is struggling to get in.
