Re: Black Knights 2007-2017 2008 Champions(2011)

PostSun Aug 05, 2018 12:43 pm

The 2011 draft is over and The Baltimore Black Knights are heading to Spring Training with more unanswered questions than they were hoping for."This could be a very long year," Weaver told reporters."Braun/Howard and Markakais will have to be all stars if the team hopes to play in the postseason." Weaver addressed the needs of the team with the picks he had but they also had to pick for 2012 as the team traded away their 1-4 picks in 2012.

We needed a SP and were very happy to land Rookie GUILLERMO MOSCOSO and add him to the rotation of Lincecum/C.C.Sabathia /Lilly and Stauffer. The Bullpen needed a lot of work and the new staff will all have a chance to compete for various roles. The Black Knights have added new faces,Grilli/Pestano/Brydak/Paulino and Lincoln.Veterans Brain Wilson and RAMON RAMIREZ are the only 2 returning players from last year.

Hitting shouls not be a problem as the team will boast around 5 positional starting players close to .300+ BA. Look for LF Ryan Braun (.322/33/111) to have a stellar season for the Knights.Braun is aso rated a AA threat on the bases and many fans are hoping for a 40/40/40 (2B/HR's/SB) season. Here is the projected line-up for the 2011 season:

1:JASON BOURGEOIS CF (.294/AA) vs LHP/ CHRIS DENORFIA CF (.277/B) vs RHP.
2:MARCO SCUTARO SS(.299/.358 OBP)
3:Ryan Braun LF(.322/AA)
4:Ryan Howard 1B(33Hr's/.346OBP)
5:N.Markakais RF(.284/.351 OBP)
6:JASON JARAMILLO C (.326/.356 OBP)
7: RUBEN TEJADA 2B (.284/.360 OBP)
8:Martin Prado 3B (.260/13/57)
9:GARRETT JONES DH (16 HR's/58RBI)

It will be a tough grind 84-88 wins tops and with 93+wins to even think of making the play-offs....the Knights will need "LUCK" and great pitching to come close.Hitting should not be a problem.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS IN 2011....... OUR 5TH SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!

The Black Knights (48-33) are in a fight for 1 of the Wild-card spots and Earl Weaver Sr. could not be more happy,"Nobody is going to catch the Mud Monkeys so our job now is to stay focused and try to get into the play-offs."The Knights had just finished BP in preparation for the games tonight against Carolina Surfer Dudes (37-44) to kick off the second half of the 2011 season."We have a few players who have struggled and we need them to pick up the pace if we are to survive the play-off drive.
SP TIM LINCECUM (12-8/3.59) leads the team in victories and is maintaining his pace for another 300K season. Rookie Catcher JASON JARAMILLO (.324/.369 OBP) is the teams top hitter while RED HOT RYAN HOWARD (.263/24/58) leads the team in home-runs.

WILD-CARD RACE after 81 games:
1:hk mossy Team (49-32)
2::Black Knights (48-33)
3: Great Balls of Fire (46-35)
4:Swamp City Vortex (44-37)
4:Midnight Steel Swingers (44-37)
5: Lancaster Barnstormers (44-37)
6: Atlanta Hitdogs (43-38)
7: Adeptus Astartes (42-39)
8: The Ranch (41-40)

Barring a total collapse 4th grade Mud Monkeys, Cooperstown Queens and Kilen Woods Snow Savages will all make the post season. That leaves 4 wildcards and a divisional winner (WEST DIVISION) to battle it out for the remaining spots.

WORTH IT OR NOT ALL-STARS!!!!
C: RYAN HANIGAN (.222/1/16) 4.06 Mil Owned by Adeptus Astartes
1B:FREDDIE FREEMAN (.213/15/30) 5.52 MIL Owned by willmurr24 Team

The 2011 season is over in "THOSE WERE THE DAYS" and the streak of 4 straight divisional titles is done but the Baltimore Black Knights(93-69) continued their play-off streak capturing one of the wildcards and will face the Kilen Woods Snow Savages (109-53) in quarter final action Monday night. The team has the day off and will hold a light practice tomorrow before flying to Texas to start the play-offs.Manager Earl Weaver Sr. thought that this was his toughest year as Manager because a lot of pressure was on their stars to come through right from the start of the season and continue till game 162. "What can i say about SP Lincecum (24-12), LF Braun (.298/37/114),RF Markakis(.295/13/81) and 1st baseman Ryan Howard(.245/44/106)."With our pay roll under 75 million the Knights had to get 110% from everyone to compete this year especially our stars and to finish with the 4th best record overall was astonishing, something i am very proud of."

At the awards banquet tonight the Knights passed out hardware to deserving winners and receiving the award for TEAM MVP was LF Ryan Braun. The team captain lead the Knights in RBI(114),1st in Total Bases(334),2nd in SB(47),2nd in HR'S(37) and 2nd in BA(.298). Top pitching award went to SP Tim Lincecum (24-12,3.44) with 313 K's in 311 innings. This years rookie of the year was awarded to SP GUILLERMO MOSCOSO (16-5,3.48) in 27 starts and finished with the 6th best winning percentage in the league (.762).The rookie starting pitcher lead all starters in WHIP with a fine 1.14.Taking the award for most improved player was 3B Martin Prado(.275/22/108).

The Quarter-Finals are in the books and the Black Knights have eliminated the Kilen Woods Snow Savages 3-1 to move on to the semi-finals.The Snow Savages lost a heartbreaker in 11 innings in Camden Yard 6-5 as both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Baltimore won the hard fought contest in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Ian Desmond slapped a single. Tony Gwynn Jr came next and he smacked a single. Gwynn Jr took second on the throw. Garrett Jones struck out, unable to help the rally. Ruben Tejada was up next and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Markakis came to the plate and drew a walk making Baltimore victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.

Vinnie Pestano(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Ryan Madson(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 3 hits and no walks.

Congrates to Balls of Fire on their victory over the best team in the league and will now get to take on the Manager Walter Greengold and his Cooperstown Queens with their 110 wins and #1 seed in the semi's.The Knights will be watching tonight's game with interest to see who they will play in the other semi's.One thing for certain they will be on the road for game one."

Earl Weaver Sr. told reporters to it doesn't matter who the team meets, this team is ready to go."Losing CF CHRIS DENORFIA (.571/1/6) our best hitter in the quaters for the rest of the play-offs is tough."Denorfia suffered a season ending broken wrist in the 7th inning last night in the teams 6-5 win.

The Knights have announced that 24 game winner Tim Lincecum will start game #1.

The Black Knights return home tonight with the series knotted at 1 game each."Best of 5 now,"Earl Weaver told reporters after the team held light workout before resuming the semi's against Atlanta Hitdogs ."Right now we have 3 games at home and all these crazy fans who have enjoyed playoff baseball every year since the league stated in 2007. CC SABATHIA (0-0,2.97) and Tim Stauffer (0-0,0.00) will be tonight's starters against DAN HAREN and VANCE WORLEY a pair of right hander's.

Fans are reminded that tomorrow nite Management will honor SP Tim Lincecum as he is not expected back next year as the Knights enter the rebuild years.Lincecum has won 93 games in his 5 years with the Knights and has struck out 1485 batters in 1333.5 innings along the way."It's been such a thrill for my family and i here in Baltimore and to be in the playoffs every season is way beyond my wildest dreams."

The Black Knights won both games last nite against the Atlanta Hitdogs on the strength of solid pitching from CC SABATHIA and Tim Stauffer."Thats about the best 2 back to back pitching that I have seen all year," Weaver told reporters last nite.CC liminited the Hitdogs to 1 run and 5 hits while Stauffer allowed 1 hit over six innings striking out 5 with no walks before 48,000 + at Camden Yards. Second baseman Ruben Tejada was thorn in the side of Atlanta all night batting .500 while 1B Ryan Howard finally woke up and hit his 1st HR in the play-offs.

In front of almost 50,000 screaming fans on Tim Lincecum Night at Camden Yards the superstar veteran put on a show.Lincecum scattered 5 hits and struck-out 10 in a dominating performance propelling the Baltimore Black Knights into the finals in Those Were The days League 2011.

Nick Markakis smashed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Tim Lincecum whiffed 10 batters as the Baltimore Black Knights defeated the Atlanta Hitdogs by the score of 3 to 1 at Camden Yards '11.

Markakis made sure the Baltimore fans enjoyed themselves. He cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 6th inning and cracked a solo homerun (his 2nd of the season) in the 8th inning. Baltimore rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon.

The victory was credited to Lincecum(2-1) who went the distance, allowing 1 run. Tim Hudson(0-3) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Earl Weaver Sr. was asked about the performance of Lincecum, 'He had his good stuff out there this afternoon. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'

The Knights shut down the Atlanta teams potent offence allowing 1 run or less in 4 of the 5 games. The Knights will take today off and than tomorrow start preparing for the League Championship against the mighty Cooperstown Queens (110-52) and their 124,000,000 million dollar payroll.

The Baltimore Black Knights held their final workout before tomorrows start of the World Series In Those Were The days League 2011 version.I thought it might be interesting to compare the the starting line-ups:

1st BASE:
Queens:
LH hitting Todd Helton(.278/21/71) appeared in 155 games.
Knights:
LH hitting Ryan Howard (.245/44/106) appeared in 159 games.

Although Helton has a better average i'll take Howard with his power and ability to hit a homerun in a tight pitching game.It might be the difference in a 1 run ball game.

2nd BASE:
Queens:
RH BRANDON PHILLIPS (.295/9/68) appeared in 150 games
Knights:
RH RUBEN TEJADA (.296/0/62) appeared in 158 games.
Better defence and a slight edge to Phillips...pretty even year.

3rd BASE:
Queens:
Queens have used (2) third baseman over the year with each one getting equal playing time.Brett Lawrie (.294/19/63) and Alex Liddi (.282/18/54)
Knights:
3rd baseman Martin Prado (.275/22/108) appeared in 160 games.

It is nice to have options on who you can play, on paper edge to Queens but Prado is solid especially for a bargain price of 1.27 million compared to the salaries of the Queen's players averaging around 5.5 million a player.

SHORTSTOP:
Queens:
MICHAEL YOUNG (.324/12/91) appeared in 155 games.
Knights:
The team used 2 shortstops in a platoon situation RH Marco Scutaro(.257/6/45) and Ian Desmond(.209/7/25).
Big edge hitting wise to Young but better defense for Knights.

Left Field:
Queens
Duncan (.229/26/72) and Andruw Jones (.255/9/46) Split duties
Knights:
RH Ryan Braun (.298/37/114) appeared in 155 games
Braun has been one the best players in the league-edge Knights

Center Field:
Queens:
Matt Kemp (.290/39/96) appeared in all games.
Knights:
Tony Gwynn Jr. (.277/4/41) and CHRIS DENORFIA (.231/4/18) split CF.
No comparison...Kemp is an all star one of the best in the game.

Right Field:
Queens
REED JOHNSON (.297/12/77) appeared in 150 games
Knights:
RF NICK MARKAKIS (.295/13/81) appeared in all games.
Looks even to me with Markakis a little better on defense.

Catcher:
Queens:
MIGUEL MONTERO (.242/12/43) and RAMON HERNANDEZ (.251/1/32) split duties
Knights:
CHRIS SNYDER (.237/10/25) and JASON JARAMILLO (.315/0/35) split duties also.
Even

DH:
Queens:
MIGUEL CABRERA (.353/39/124) appeared in 160 games.
Knights:
The Knights used a platoon LH Garrett Jones (.238/19/56) and RH JASON BOURGEOIS (.364/2/19)
There is a reason why Miggy is league MVP!!!!!!!!!

Good luck to the Cooperstown Queens
GO-Knights-GO !!!

It was a hell of a ride," Manager Earl Weaver Sr.told reporters of last nights loss. The Cooperstown Queens scored 7 runs in the 8th and 9th innings to claim the League Championship.
Cooperstown won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 4 runners on 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Shelley Duncan, who helped quiet the crowd when he belted a three-run homer (his 5th of the season). Both teams finished the game with 8 hits and with this victory the Queens won the 2011 Championship,4 games to 1.

Kyle Farnsworth(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 1/3 innings and allowing 1 run. Farnsworth got help from David Robertson who earned his 1st save. Ramon Ramirez(0-1) was given the loss in relief.

Knight's Management said this was the best team effort since 2007 considering the team payroll of 75 million in a 200 million cap. There will be plenty of holes to fill at this years draft if the Knights are going to make the play-offs for the 6th consecutive year. With no draft picks till around the 140th pick things could go down hill very fast. Again congrates to the "CHAMP"...and see you in 2012.

After coming so close last year Manager Earl Weaver Sr. was optimistic as the Knights headed out to San Fran to start the 2012 season."We got a lot of players returning, our starting pitching has improved and our players now know what it takes to win a championship," the Skipper continued. The Knights will be vying for their 6th straight shot at the play-offs in Those were the Day's League.Lead by team captain Ryan Braun(.319/41/112) and "ACE" starting pitcher Kris Medlen (10-1,1.57) the team should be able to compete giving the fans another exciting season in Baltimore.

"The hardest thing i had to do in spring training was select the 25th man,"joked Weaver,"8 of 9 positional starters are back with only the Catchers spot open from the 2011 team." Most of the bullpen also returns joining 2 new starting pitchers,(FELIPE PAULINO,3-1 ,1.67 and BRAD LINCOLN 5-2,3.68). Rounding out the starting rotation are CC SABATHIA (15-6,3.38),Ted Lilly(5-1,3.14) and Medlen.
The bullpen will be lead by CL VINNIE PESTANO (3-3,2.57)with supporting help from JASON GRILLI (1-6,2.91),TIM BYRDAK (2-2,4.40) and newcomers EVAN SCRIBNER (2-0,2.55),WESLEY WRIGHT (2-2,3.27) and STEVE DELABAR (4-3,3.82).

On paper the Knights appear to be a very good hitting team with solid speed, decent power and not to shabby defense. Here is the projected line-up for 2012:

1:CF ROGER BERNADINA (.291/5/25 OBP .372)
2:2B MARCO SCUTARO (.306/7/74 OBP .348)
3:DH GARRETT JONES (.281/27/86 OBP .317)
4:LF Ryan Braun (.319/41.112 OBP .391)
5:RF NICK MARKAKIS (.298/13/54 OBP .363)
6:1B MARTIN PRADO (.301/10/70 OBP .359)
7:SS Ian Desmond (.292/25/73 OBP .335)
8:2B CHRIS JOHNSON (.281/15/76 OBP .326)
9:C JESUS MONTERO (.260/15/62 OBP .298)

Last year i predicted 83 wins with around a 75 million dollar payroll,,,,this season our payroll has increased to 94 million. With that in mind I think 93-97 wins for this team and another post season.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL.....LETS PLAY BALL!!!!!!!!!!
