1982 Auto League 433560 Newbie Question

PostFri Jun 23, 2017 7:07 am

I am brand new to online Strat-O and, despite my last place record, really enjoying playing. My question for the vets in the league regards my pitching stats. A third or so into the season seems to be enough of a sample size to start to wonder a little bit. I have 5 Cy Young Award winners on my staff, and I still am far, far the worst pitching staff in the league. With a 5.55 ERA, 1.25 higher than the league average. Every single one of my pitchers are far, far underperforming their '82 stats, most not even anywhere close. Wondering from those that are vets if you just have long stretches, or even full seasons, where entire teams underperform by that much. Thanks a lot to all.

You're playing in a ballpark where it's very easy to hit homers, you have a poor defense up the middle and your bullpen is not going to be good at stranding inherited runners. That's a recipe for inflated pitching stats.

Thanks, burgh. The up the middle D is something I clearly did not take into account. The hitters' ballpark, I clearly underestimated, although my offensive stats are only in line, not inflated. The part that isn't adding up is that my middle relievers are actually pretty online. I dumped a couple of starters with ERAs but the 6.00-7.00 range. And my closer, who mostly has come in at the start of innings (Sutter) has been my worst performer. It all could easily just even out over time. I am having a lot of fun learning my lessons, though. Fun to relive all this.
