There's a situation with the way we can manipulate our rosters that I really don't think is at all fair.

Because of trades made after the 2017 draft started, Terry ended up with 24 protected players on his team. The deals that put him over the top of the 21 allowed could have just as easily been made before the draft started, but if that was the case they wouldn't have been allowed unless he dropped other player players to make room. We have a limit of 21 for a reason. And not jus that, we can't have a trade that would be illegal one day and legal the next, which is in fact what has happened here.

I don't for a second believe that Terry was trying to be underhanded in any way. However I find it to be unfair, and also subject to collusion accusations. "You keep that extra guy that you don't want, and once the draft starts I'll give you a pick for him."

We need to close this loop-hole for 2018 and beyond by stipulating that protected rosters are frozen until the end of the draft. Nice and simple, no arguments.

Guy and I have been chatting about this in PMs and I suggested he post this in the ILC. This is not a loophole but a conscious sequence of events in the rules. There are different "legal" events at different times in a season's life cycle, including:
- Prior to start of draft
- After start of draft
- After end of draft
- After game 132
- After game 141

In the case in point, any uneven trade during the draft (2-for-1, player for pick, etc.) would result in the circumstance under discussion. I think that's perfectly appropriate -- and many of us have made those trades -- however I would be open to a change in the rules, if others think that's needed. Shall we take a vote?

I think this is all completely Irrelevant to the case I've described. The in-season circumstances follow the rules. I believe that trading protected players after the draft has started circumnavigates the rules. It's a loop-hole, and we need to close it.

This is not true. It depends on the number of protected players from each team were included.

If there's no discussion, yes we should.
