ANDY’S 20th CENTURY TOURNAMENT
In this 10-season theme league, we will play the best teams/dynasties from MLB in different eras, culminating with a Semi-Finals Season and then a Finals Season, where we will crown the Champion.
We will use a 95m Cap, DH, and let HAL randomize the divisions. The first season will use teams from the 1900s-1910s.
Each roster is set up to utilize as many of the players possible who actually played for the team that season, but, since we don’t have every card ever made, some liberties have to be taken.
FIRST, unless specifically stated on the Rosters Page, you may use any card to represent the player assigned to you.
SECOND, there are some cards we will use to represent players we either don’t have a card for, or don’t have representative card. For example, Tino Martinez will be represented by Leon Durham’s 4.18m card.
THIRD, some players who played for the franchise at another time will also be used.
One other point: in some instances, I "improved" a certain player by using a different card to represent him. On the 1978 Dodgers for instance, Freddy Parent can be used as a better Bill Russell. The actual 1977 Bill Russell is also eligible for the 1978 Dodgers roster, but you cant use BOTH Freddy Parent and the 1977 Bill Russell.
THERE ARE NO TRADES, AND YOU MAY ONLY USE PLAYERS ASSIGNED TO YOUR TEAM’S ROSTER.
ONE CAVEAT: BECAUSE OF THE WAY ROSTERS ARE SET UP, EACH MANAGER HAS THE OPTION TO PICK UP ONE .50 SP WHO IS NOT ASSIGNED TO ANY OTHER ROSTER FOR THAT SEASON. For example, grab Luis Leal to be your .50 scrub SP for your 1957 Braves if you want. You obviously don't have to do this, and may find it better to use your 5th starter as a reliever, or go with a 5-man Rotation.
SOME CARDS WILL BE USED IN MULTIPLE SEASONS, though not in the same Season.
Two Examples:
In a single season, Reggie Jackson is on the 1973 A’s, so Darryl Strawberry is “playing” Reggie on the 1977 Yankees. Tom Seaver is on the 1969 Mets, the 1983 White Sox, and the 1986 Red Sox, all in different seasons. If the 86 Red Sox and 69 Mets end up playing in the Semis, I will select a player to represent Seaver for the Red Sox. Any player discrepancies when we reach the Semis or Finals while be resolved by me BEFORE WE DRAFT TEAMS fr Finals or Semis.
I went through and created Strat teams for all 96 rosters at the 95m Cap. Teams are set up in different ways: some teams’ strength will be starting pitching, some an awesome bullpen, some are offensive juggernauts. There are enough players and cards to use multiple team-building ideas. Some hard decisions may have to be made. Do you want the most expensive Derek Jeter for the 98 Yankees, or do you want to use his cheaper card to help the team in other areas? Do you want to use a 5-man rotation, or use a SP/RP as your closer?
Season #9---Take the 8 Seasons Finals Runnerups plus 4 Wild Cards.
Manager Winning Pctg will be calculated after the first 8 Seasons.
For THIS round, the team draft will be from lowest Manager Win Pctg to Highest. (This will give managers who had worse records a chance at the best teams)
Season #10--Take the 8 Seasons Finals winners plus the 2 Finals Participants and 2 Wild Cards from Season #9.....
THIS draft will be in order of HIGHEST Manager Win Pctg to Lowest. (This will reward the managers who performed the best with what they had, and keep guys from tanking to get better draft picks seasons 2-8.
