I'm a meteorologist for Nat'l Weather Service - was a hurricane (typhoon) forecaster in the Air Force, now I work at the hurricane center as a civilian, no longer putting out tropical cyclone forecasts, but open ocean marine forecasts for winds/seas for the tropical ATLC and E Pacific. It's a year-round operation, unlike hurricanes, and gets incredibly busy during hurricane season. Thankfully, it's winding down now. Sandy was the grand finale I believe.
