Back when the Senators were playing, there was a modification of the saying about George Washington, but as applied to the Senators, it was "First in War, First in Peace, and last in the American League". Matthew 20:16 "And the last shall be first..."

I'm selecting the less expensive version of Morgan, and may upgrade at the conclusion of the draft, depending on how it goes.

Death of Paul Blair:

I liked the highlight video associated with the article.

I hadn't remembered about the beaning by Ken Tatum.

A video of Blair's game winning hit in Game 1 of the 1977 World Series:

Looking at the Paul Blair video from the 1977 World Series, he really puts his left foot in the bucket. I don't remember him doing that before the beaning. His offensive stats took a nose dive after the hit by pitch.

Last night on the MLB network they showed a defensive statistic (WAR) for center fielders. On a career basis the top five are Andrew Jones, Paul Blair, Willie Mays, Devon White, and Jimmy Piersall.

Ken, thanks again.

I saw that also. Pretty impressive. I was just a kid in 1970 but as a Reds fan I remember being very upset with Blair and Robinson who I thought were stealing the series from the Reds.
